Scammers Targeting Habersham EMC Members

Habersham EMC has been notified that some members have received telephone calls stating their power would be disconnected immediately unless they provided a credit card number for payment.

“Members should hang up at once and report the call to their local law enforcement,” cautions Susan Baker, Manager of Member Services. “If HEMC members have questions regarding their accounts, customer service representatives can be reached at 706-754-2114, 706-865-4362 or 800-640-6812.”

Habersham EMC Announces New Rate Structure

Effective April 1, 2016, a new rate structure will go into effect. The restructure is designed to better reflect the actual costs to provide members with safe, reliable electricity.

A cost-of-service study to evaluate the current cost to serve a member was completed in 2015. The study showed it would benefit HEMC members by revising the rate structures to include the current average Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) within the rate. HEMC's current average WPCA was .03515 cents. With the new rate structure, it has been set to zero.

The agreement affects existing customers, mostly located within the city limits of Baldwin, Clarkesville, Cornelia and Demorest. HEMC does not plan to change the speed and rate these customers had with NGN Connect.
